BALLET
Ages 5 and up. Royal Academy of Dance syllabus classes focusing on barre and centre work. Students are trained with an eye to proper body alignment. Classes will be prepared for exams and some students, with the recommendation of their teacher, may be entered as exam candidates. Ballet is the foundation of all dance disciplines and therefore it is recommended for all students. As well as RAD syllabus classes, The Dance Gallery also offers a recreational ballet programme for those students wishing to supplement their other dance classes. All ballet students will dance in our year-end production at The Sagebrush Theatre.
JAZZ
Ages 6 and up. High energy and lots of fun, Jazz classes at The Dance Gallery are very popular. Based on ballet technique and backed by popular music, classes consist of warm-up/stretch, steps across the floor and combinations in the centre. All students are prepared to dance in our year-end production at The Sagebrush Theatre.
TAP
Ages 5 and up. Making music with your feet!! This class combines the rhythm, timing, coordination and style! From the classic styles of Mr. Bojangles to the rhythmic noise of "STOMP".... you'll get it all in this class. Based on the Al Gilbert Syllabus, the class starts with technique and continues on with combinations and steps across the floor. All students perform in our year-end production at The Sagebrush Theatre.
PRESCHOOL DANCE
Ages 3-5. An introduction to dance for little ones. We sing, we tap, we ballet, we jazz, we do it all and it is FUN! Children are taught the basics of ballet and tap and introduced to 'baby jazz'. With emphasis on creative expression, the little dancers learn to march, skip, gallop and interpret the music as they feel it. This class is meant as an introduction to dance classes and gives the new parent and dancer a chance to decide which classes they may like to take when they 'graduate'! All preschool dancers learn a Christmas routine to be performed at our December observation week and also learn another dance to perform onstage for our year-end production at The Sagebrush Theater.
MUSICAL THEATRE
Ages 6 and up.
PRE-REQUISITE : Must be taking a jazz class at The Dance Gallery to enroll in this class.
Singing, Dancing, Acting; This is more than just your regular dance class. Students are given training and coaching in both voice and acting as well as learning choreography to classic pieces of Musical Theatre. Dance technique and training comes from their jazz class, which allows more time for vocal instruction. As Musical Theatre is a true 'performance' art, all students are prepared to perform at The Kamloops Festival of Performing Arts as well as our year-end production.
